Investigation 4: Coastal Erosion and Deposition

Key Question: How can moving water create and change beaches?

We will be working on investigation 4 for the next week, maybe two. We will be learning the following state content standard:

2c: Students will be able to explain, describe, illustrate, and demonstrate how beaches are dynamic systems in which the sand is supplied by rivers and moved along the coast by the action of waves.

Goals: By the end of this investigation students will know

1. That beaches are active systems.
2. Sand, supplied by rivers and coastal erosion, is moved along the coast by wave action.
3. The way beach sand moves can be investigated using models.
4. Humans build structures to change how beaches move.
